The Seattle Times reported today that Seattle will begin using salt to deice city streets during future winter storms. Sa-weet. Never again will be we completely snow-bound for an entire week of doldrums. I was waiting for Seattle to make the change - especially after ecologists pointed out that sand is actually more detrimental to the marine environment than salt. Booya!

Sweet, that IS good news!
ReplyDeleteSalt only makes sense when there is ice and the temperature is substantially below freezing (32F). Salt works by lowering the melting point (to a min of 0F). So Seattle using salt during the last bit of snow proves conclusively that they are only responding to politics, not road or driver safety, nor do they have any clue on how to do the right thing.
ReplyDeleteseattle in the snow = clueless...
ReplyDeleteit snowed a ton the other day in boston, and the roads were cleared within a few hours. *sigh*
